A couple of revisions |
2008-Oct-16 |
|
I noticed that a page or two had a script error on it, but they should now be fixed.
For some reason, my menu was not configured correctly, and it was hiding all of the link sections. That is now fixed as well.
Plus, there's a new addition: under Projects, (not sure if it's a permanent home or not) I have added a write-up for a Vacuum System that I made a couple of years ago. Seeing as some of my local friends were holding it ransom, passing it from one to another as the need arose, I figured it wouldn't hurt to pass on my education on the matter, and help someone else out. So, check it out, and let me know what you think of it.

Pato's Revenge Repair Under Way |
2008-Jul-25 |
|
I added a link to my little-known and VERY disorganized projects section. I welcome your feedback, and your ideas for future projects, or even input on something listed there. There are a couple of ideas I have up my sleeve that I'm not going to share until I'm much... [+]

I've got a couple of photos of Pato's Revenge undergoing an airframe transplant. I haven't made the new tube yet, but I got the old one cut away from the fin can, and it's ready for it's new tube.

Managed to make it to a Club Launch yesterday, and thanks to a friend, took 'One Butt-Ugly Phoenix' to 5900' on a K550. It was a sweet flight, and it definitely did a lot to break the monotony of working for a living. The trip was good, and we had a lot... [+]

Jim Ball's Scale Data Site |
2008-Mar-2 |
|
Check it out. I apologize for the file size, but I FINALLY managed to get the video of Pato's Revenge on an Aerotech J570 up, and online.
One interesting tidbit about this video, is that it has a telemetry graph (taken from the altimeter data)... [+]

Rocketry Online has coordinated with Jim Ball to be able to carry on his Scale Data site. I have been working on recreating this site recently, and the recreation is now complete.

Update to Pato's Revenge flight log. |
2007-Mar-30 |
|
Take a look at the latest Flight Data for Pato's Revenge. Mach 1.5, with an abrupt stop. My wonderful wife Chauntel also got her Level 1 Certification. Congrats Baby!

|
On March 10th, I finally managed to fly Pato's Revenge on a J570 at a ROC club launch in Lucerne. After my move, I was finally able to dig up my altimeter cables, and download the flight data, which I have put up for all to see, along with their respective Excel... [+]

One Butt Ugly Phoenix flies on a K700! |
2007-Jan-15 |
|
Those of you that know me personally, know that 'life' has been happening a lot to me lately. I have a couple of projects that I am working on, including but not limited to ROL, and the AGM-1800 Pit Bull LDRS project, and some of that has had to be put on hold for a... [+]

At Plaster Blaster, I managed to get my L2 on 'One Butt-Ugly Phoenix' on a K185, but I just wasn't impressed with the boost on that motor for that rocket, because of the nose weight that it needs to carry to be stable. The flight was great, which you can see [+]

GBU-15 Shelved. |
2006-Sep-5 |

I FINALLY got around to posting photos, video, and a writeup from Plaster Blaster 5 here.
I have also modified the scripts that handle the events (the same... [+]

Due
to time constraints, and the fact that the GBU has been taking up
exactly 50% of my processing time for these three rockets, I have
shelved construction of the GBU-15 until after Plaster Blaster. I would
much rather have something to fly than nothing to fly at... [+]

So, I haven't updated in a while. Here goes.
Pato II - Pato II is modeled, but not yet
simmed. It is going to be a 3FNC, 2.00" ID, with a 38mm MMT. The fins
will be Honeycomb & Carbon Fiber composite, the airframe, nose cone
and... [+]

Just
got back from a spectating Saturday at RocStock XXIII, and brought back
a little bit of video, and a couple of pictures. Check it out in the

I suppose you want an update or something, right? |

In building these two rockets, and the fact that they are both entirely composite rockets, I am suffering from a bit of a learning curve with the materials and processes involved. I have learned that trying to buy cheap materials to take the place of an expensive material... [+]

|
Well, I have found some Owens Corning Pink foam, and I managed to turn a couple of pieces to use for fabricating both 'Pato II', and the GBU-15. I have finished up the design (in my head at least, the drawings are not done yet), and I am working on getting all of my... [+]

Materials on the way for a rebuild of Pato. |
2006-Apr-24 |
|
You may or may not know that Pato had a Boat Tail motor retainer, using the 38-54 size. I really liked how this worked, and I would like to try to duplicate the same behavior on the rebuild, but I would like to avoid having to use the really heavy Aluminum unit from Giant... [+]

I have materials and supplies on the way which will allow me to completely reconstruct Pato using Carbon Fiber Aerosleeves from aerosleeves.com. I am also looking for some components to build a 4" GBU-15 shortly after I... [+]

First Site Revamp |
2006-Mar-13 |

I started a new job today, and it should better provide for my rocket building and flying activities, so I hope that things will pick up around here before too long.

|
When I began this site, it was actually just one page, because I got enough questions about one of my projects to warrant not wanting to have to actually explain everything about the project over and over. Then I got people asking about the rest of my stuff, and what other... [+]

Minor Expansion |
2005-Dec-27 |
|
On it's third flight, 'Pato' was destroyed.
This was my second attempt at dual deployment. The flight was on a CTI I285, in moderate winds. The previous flight was less than optimal, and I surmised that it was because the main parachute... [+]

Expand/Collapse can now be evoked with the text links, as well as the images. Still trying to fill in all of the existing stuff, so that when I get back into construction, it will be less of a load to 'keep up' rather than playing 'catch up' all the time.

Collpsed Under Pressure |
2005-Dec-15 |

Modified WRX page, and Menu Title to closer suit what is going on, and added a cool picture to it. Also, the collapsible content, I thought was a good idea, because the articles, and associated photos are fairly lengthy, and a... [+]

Added collapsability to each section of rockets, and events. If you don't feel like reading all the stuff I write, or you just want to skip straight to the photos/video, etc., then you can collapse a section, and you don't have to scroll so far.
